Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do,
forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth
unto those things which are before,
I press toward the mark
for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 3:13-14

To press means to: move or cause to move into a position of contact with something by exerting continuous physical force.

When a mother is going through the process of birthing her baby, she is told to “push.”  At that moment, she’s pressing with full force to push the baby through the birth canal into the world!  While for some, it can be a painful process, the determination for the desired outcome is front and center and the pain is dealt with regardless of what she’s feeling at that moment.  No matter what, the determination to give life to her precious baby is foremost in her mind!

The example of what I shared above can be applied to every area of our lives.  No matter what you’re going through, no matter how intense the pain is, no matter how difficult a situation, your desire to “press in” determines the outcome.  I personally don’t care to think where I would be today had I not chosen to press in during what seemed to be the most difficult challenge in my life.

I’ve had to press my way through family, friendships, naysayers, doubters and non-believers.  People don’t define who you are!  Your situations don’t either, unless you allow it.

The below quote pretty much sums up my definition of how I choose to deal with circumstances beyond my understanding or control.

The Apostle Paul realized that following Jesus is not about religious achievements but about walking in a permanent lifestyle of dependency upon Him. — Jack Hayford

I alone, am not capable of dealing with life’s ups and downs alone.  My dependency and trust is in God.  Without Him, I fail.  However, with Him I succeed.  I consistently bring back HIS {promised} words to His remembrance because He desires we do so.  “Put me in remembrance…” – Isaiah 43:26

Sometimes your challenges will cause you to fear what’s ahead.  Even though you pray, sometimes you’ll {fear} feel like God doesn’t hear you and there’s no way out.

Fears are today’s lies about tomorrow’s promise. Fears are denials of hope rooted in doubts about God’s power, presence, promise, and workings. God always offers us the guarantee of His presence, and that’s enough to cast fears aside. The timeless rule for every runner in every race is, Don’t look back. — Jack Hayford

I also concur with what Jack says to “press in for values that overrule self.”

To PRESS IN, determines how you overcome situations — when you find yourself doubting, frustrated and hopeless, this is your opportune time to let go and let God!  It’s your opportunity to pick up the Bible and search for God’s promises according to your challenge/situation.  It’s an opportunity to have a conversation with the Holy Spirit and listen for His answers.  It’s your time to boldly speak out of your mouth God’s word to override your thoughts and actions.  When you speak audibly you drown out the negative things your mind wants to tell you!  It’s pressing in with God’s words (values) and truth of how to overcome the challenge before you!

The Choice is Up to YOU

Everything we do is a choice.  It’s like picking up a pencil… that’s a choice.  Taking a pencil and writing on a sheet of paper… that’s a choice.  Making the decision to focus on positive opposed to negative… that’s a choice.  Casting ALL your cares to Jesus as He welcomes you to do… is a choice.  Deciding that you are a overcomer… is a choice.  Having faith regardless of what a situation looks like… is a choice.  Choosing to pick up the bible… is a choice.  God will never make you do anything that is against your will…it’s a choice.

The Lord is calling each of us to go the distance, but on His terms. He is yet saying to all who put their trust in Him—“Keep moving forward so My power can be released in you and My purpose may be fulfilled in you.” — Jack Hayford

When you trust in God with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding, HE WILL direct your paths.  God knows when you’re ready to let go and welcome Him in to restore you to your purposed life.  It’s how you go through the process that determines the outcome. To press in is my permanent way of lifestyle of depending on God in every situation of my life.

Will you press in to your purposed life?

I trust my life to God & continue to press even when I feel I no longer have the strength to because, I know without a doubt, He will pick me up & carry me the rest of the way!!
